Frankism & Secret Societies

The Seal of the Order of Elus Coens
Duker, Polish Frankism’s Duration, page 26-27

The above passage is crucial because it illustrates how many European Masonic orders of the time did not permit Jews among their ranks, yet were eager to host baptised Frankists within their highest degrees, even harboring sympathies toward Jacob Frank, all while maintaining an overall antipathy toward Jews.

This was also true of the Bavarian Illuminati, which, in its inception, had an explicit rule against admitting Jewish members, but would later on lift this policy. The most well known Frankist in the Illuminati was Josef von Sonnenfels, an Austrian reformer who was considered among the leaders of the order.

“The original ‘Instructio pro Recupientibus (Statutes of the Perfectibilists aka the Illuminati) is remarkable for its explicit provision that no Jews could be admitted. It was dropped from the eponymous text in the minerval degree, but the requirement that every member should be a Christian remained in force.” – Josef Wages, The Secret School of Wisdom, pages 16-17
